Lip Fillers Treatment

Lip Fillers Trends

Google trends shows a steady increase in searches for “lip fillers” over the past years.

Lips are trending as much as eyebrows, if not more. Lip fillers are becoming a go-to treatment for adding volume, smoothing out a pout for cleaner lipstick application, and for restoring volume and hydration that has begun to wane with age.Over the years men and women have used all kinds of injectables, massages, devices and plumping products to achieve lip volume and augment their lips. There are ways of permanently increasing the size of your lips, but we believe that temporary lip filler is a better option – after all, permanently plump lips could look strange ten years later when the dynamics of your face has changed again through natural ageing!

One of the most popular treatments for lips is injectable fillers (also known as dermal fillers). The longevity of your lip filler will depend on the product selected and factors unique to the individual. The procedure itself takes 30 minutes and can be carried out with numbing cream to reduce any discomfort.

What factors affect the result of lip fillers?

Just like you wouldn’t get on a plane with an untrained pilot, don’t give your face to an inexperienced injector. Achieving natural looking lips using dermal fillers is a skill that is refined over many years. Skilful facial enhancement and contouring require both in-depth knowledge of human anatomy and experience to achieve optimum results. The following factors influence the result you will achieve:

  • Doctor or technician (injector) performing the procedure
  • Experience of the Doctor / injector
  • An understanding of the patient’s goals
  • Type and quality of filler used
  • Amount of filler used
  • Correct placement of filler

How to achieve a natural look?

A natural look is achieved by a combination of a highly skilled and experienced cosmetic doctor, along with the right amount, best quality and correct placement of filler. The following can be addressed with dermal fillers in the lips and around the mouth:

  • Filling smoker’s lines and marionette lines
  • Plumping lips and giving volume to thin lips
  • Correcting balance in uneven lips
  • Replacing volume due to ageing
  • Correction of a smile

Lip filler FAQs

How old do you have to be to get lip fillers?

Anyone under the age of 18 is not recommended for cosmetic injectables. We do offer a wide-range of skin treatments suitable for your age group and we welcome you to visit our clinic with a parent or guardian to discuss any of these options.

I know I want my lips done, do I need a consultation?

Yes. As lip fillers require a doctor’s assessment and prescription, all clients are required to undertake a consultation. During this consultation, your injector will work with you and the doctor to discuss the best course for treatment and set expectations.

How often can you get lip filler?

It depends on the individual and the product used and the result you are after, but follow-up sessions are usually recommended at around every 6 to 12 months to maintain results.

Do lip fillers hurt?

This will really depend on the individual. The injections themselves feel like a slight pinch, and you may experience slight pressure or a ‘stinging’ sensation as the product is being injected.

Although the needle used is very small, slight bruising and bleeding can occur at the site of the injections. You can choose to have your lips numbed with a topical numbing cream and this is recommended for your first time.

When can I expect to see results?

You will see the results of your treatment almost immediately, however, it is very important to understand that your lips will be swollen. The degree of swelling is variable from person to person.  You can’t predict how much swelling you will get until you have had them injected, so it is recommended not to have lip filler done if you have an important event a few days post treatment.

Can lip filler be removed?

It is possible to erase the dermal filler using an enzyme to dissolve the product, although it is extremely rare for us to need to do so. The reversal treatment comes with its own risks and should be discussed thoroughly with your doctor.

Should I massage my lips post treatment?

Your doctor will advise you on how to massage your lips and how often to massage.  Sometimes you may be asked not to massage them at all.  It is extremely important to follow your doctor’s recommendations.

Can I have lip filler while pregnant or breastfeeding?

It is not recommended to receive injectable treatments while pregnant or breastfeeding, as the risks are uncertain.
